Description
Here are some photos of my 1/48 Revell F-84E Thunderjet.
I built the model straight out of the box. I especially like the
inclusion of ferry tanks and JATO bottles with this variant. I
couldn't resist using both, and I'll bet that with that amount of
fuel and the aircraft's engine performance, JATO bottles were a
necessity.
The finish is Model Master Metalizer buffing paints with Aluminum
as the base coat and Stainless Steel and Anodized Metal for some of
the panels. The area around the exhaust was painted Burnt Metal. I
used the kit decals and they went on without a problem.
The hardest part of decaling was the large checkerboard pattern
on the nose and the cowling rings; I kept moistening the decal and
slowly working it into position. I used Solvaset to snuggle down the
decals and sealed the plane with Metalizer Sealer. The anti-glare
pattern should be flat, but I couldn't bear to risk messing up the
finish on the nose so I left it glossy.
Revell's 1/48 scale F-84E was a fun kit to build and I was
astonished and pleased when the model took an OOB award at the IPMS-USA
Nationals.
